The Hapalua, Hawaii's Half Marathon and The Chase On April 16th, 2023, I had the privilege of covering Olympic Bronze Medalist Molly Seidel's participation in The Hapalua, Hawaii's Half Marathon. The event marked the 13th Hapalua and the 10th edition of The Chase, an exciting race within the race that adds an extra layer of competition and unpredictability. In this unique format, 18 of the top runners in Hawaii, known as Team Hawaii, receive a handicap ranging from 27 to 9 minutes, giving them a head start over the professional athletes. The anticipation was testing my nerves as the day unfolded, and I couldn't wait to witness this thrilling event firsthand. The hotel alarm went off at 2:30am, and I had a half hour to start my walk over to the Waikiki Shell to rendezvous with my motorcycle driver at 3:30am. 2022 Hawai'i Bird Conservation Marathon Results The 2022 Bird Conservation Marathon on the Big Island of Hawaii was held on a beautiful and scenic course starting at the Volcano Golf Course and ending at the Boy Scouts of America Aloha Council in Hilo. This marathon has a total elevation drop of 3,792 feet on all paved roads, is a point to point course, Is USATF certified, and the people that put it on care. start at 6 am. Over 100 runners participated in the challenging downhill course of 26.2 miles, no doubt fueled by their passion for running and the desire to support the Honeycreeper a bird special to Hawai'i. The 50th Annual Honolulu Marathon is a highly anticipated event in the world of distance running, with professional runners from all over the globe converging on the beautiful island of Oahu to compete. This year's race featured Ethiopian runners Bere Ayalew and Abebech Afework as the favorites to take home the top prize. Both athletes are known for their impressive training regimes and impressive track records, making them formidable contenders in the race. As the runners took to the starting line in Waikiki, they were greeted with cool, humid conditions and strong 10-15 mile per hour trade winds that existed the afternoon and evening before. Despite these challenges, they were determined to push through and give it their all in the 26.2 mile race.
